I am strategist with over 35 years international experience and my focus is on how to generate strategic opportunity and manage risk within disruptive change.
I have worked in many areas - corporate strategy, civic strategy, marketing, business planning, risk management, economic development, environmental management, community development, urban planning and government policy - in all sectors of business, industry, government and communities.
Organisations I have worked with include IBM, GM, Telstra, Ausnet, Ericsson, state, federal and local government, universities, and my current backyard is Australia and USA - with an eye on emerging nations.
Some 30 years ago I arrived at the understanding that conventional methods for strategy and planning are sub-optimal, if not under some situations highly dangerous. They fail to robustly deal with the level of complex conditions, systems and dynamic change present in all business, social, economic and ecological environments. More so, they tend to miss the depth of opportunity and risk inherent in some of our most significant challenges - industry development and transformation, economic recovery, climate change, energy reorientation & technology.
This understanding led me on a journey of discovery and development of the Strategy in Action (SiA) framework. SiA focuses on changing ahead of change within complex, disruption & has been applied in many businesses and places.
I am an experienced public speaker and have lectured at several universities and business schools including The Mount Eliza Business School, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Boston College and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Recent speaking engagements include the Global Innovation and Leadership Summit in Silicon Valley, Innovation Places in Connecticut, USA and the CSIRO AIM, and AI Summit in Australia.
I am also a cancer survivor and am committed to squeezing every ounce out of life that this great world can bring.
