As Lead Scientist I contribute to economic development by building connections across the private, public and research sectors of the Victorian economy. Priorities include engagement with the leadership of Victorian universities to align with government’s investment, trade, sector policy and future workforce strategies and to drive business-research collaboration. I also work with the Department of Education and Training on science, mathematics and C21 skills initiatives.
I subscribe to the values reflected in the UN Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on quality education; decent work and economic growth; industry, innovation and infrastructure.
Pharmacology is my science discipline and I have broad experience in commercialising medical research and pharmaceutical drug development; formulating public science and innovation policy; and in governance of public and private entities.
I Chair the Stakeholder Advisory Panel for Onshore Conventional Gas which is providing oversight on a geoscience and environment program of work to understand Victoria’s onshore conventional gas resources. Results from these studies will provide a science base to inform government on the moratorium on onshore conventional gas exploration and development.
I Chair the Victorian Inspiring Australia Board to promote community awareness of science and coordinate National Science Week. Additionally, I serve on the Boards of Agriculture Victoria Services Pty Ltd and the Biosciences Research Centre Joint Venture and Company.
Non-government Boards: Australian Science Media Centre; Ivanhoe Grammar School (Deputy Chair); ARC Centre of Excellence for Integrative Brain Function ; Swinburne Business School Industry Advisory Board, Chemicals and Plastics Manufacturing Innovation Network and Monash University Pharmaceutical Sciences Advisory Group.
